Businesses will be able to issue and exchange Open USD (OUSD) without fees and volume restrictions. The revenue from the stablecoin's reserves will be distributed among them, minus a management fee. OUSD will be governed by an independent DAO rather than a single issuer. Major payment networks such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover participated in the launch. The project also includes financial institutions like BlackRock, BNY, and Standard Chartered, as well as tech companies Google, Shopify, and IBM. Among the crypto companies involved are Coinbase, Bybit, OKX, MetaMask, Ripple, and Galaxy. Mastercard's CPO Jorn Lambert stated that a unified, interoperable infrastructure is key to integrating stablecoins into the broader financial system. OUSD will become the default stablecoin for businesses using Stripe. Following the announcement, Circle's stock adjusted by 16%.
