Bybit has filed a lawsuit against North Korea and the Lazarus Group over the largest hacking attack, worth $1.5 billion.

The crypto exchange obtained a preliminary injunction to freeze assets. The purpose of the order is to preserve the stolen cryptocurrencies during the legal proceedings. On February 21, 2025, hackers linked to the North Korean government, the Lazarus Group, stole more than 400,000 ETH and stETH. The breach accounted for the bulk of the $2 billion stolen by North Koreans in 2025. According to Chainalysis, they have stolen a total of $6.75 billion in cryptocurrency. The regime may have used the proceeds to finance military programs, including those against Ukraine. Following the attack on Bybit, only $75.6 million (5.3%) has been frozen, while another $64.1 million (4.5%) is being tracked.
