The bank will launch the program a few months after the law on cryptocurrency market regulation comes into force on September 1. After that, Sberbank customers will be able to buy and store cryptocurrencies. However, the final launch date will be announced after the legislation is published. Moscow Exchange also plans to launch cryptocurrency operations by the end of 2026. Earlier, other Russian banks, including VTB and the T-Bank Group, announced plans to launch cryptocurrency services. At the same time, digital ruble settlements will appear in the largest financial and credit institutions from September 1. Meanwhile, the Bank of Russia is considering opening CBDC wallets on banks’ balance sheets, rather than only at the regulator.
