The restrictions are part of the bloc’s 21st sanctions package against Russia, which includes 218 individuals and entities. This is the largest list in four years. At the same time, the EU separately expanded transaction restrictions covering banks, crypto platforms, oil traders, and other organizations. In addition, the bloc expanded sanctions against A7 (the issuer of the largest ruble stablecoin, A7A5) and 14 crypto platforms. These include HTX, EXMO, Rapira, BitPapa, Aifory Pro, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto, and Exnode. The restrictions will take effect on August 23. The new provision allows the EU to ban transactions with crypto service providers registered in a country that failed to prevent violations of the bloc’s sanctions. However, the mechanism is not yet operational, as the list is still empty.
