A New York court has prohibited Arbitrum DAO from unlocking 30,800 ETH ($71 million) to compensate Aave. The plaintiffs themselves were not affected by the Kelp DAO situation; however, they hold old default judgments against North Korea. As part of the lawsuit, the frozen ETH is considered an asset in which North Korea has an interest. These funds were frozen by Arbitrum DAO to prevent the theft of $292 million in cryptocurrency by North Korean hackers Lazarus. However, the court ruling may complicate compensation for those affected by the incident. North Korea continues to deny state involvement in cryptocurrency theft. According to blockchain analytics, they stole $577 million in 2022, accounting for 76% of global losses in that year, which is significantly higher than the 10% share in 2020. Since 2017, hackers linked to North Korea have stolen $6 billion in cryptocurrency.
