Guo Wengui, also known as Miles Guo, left China ten years ago and positioned himself as a critic of the Communist Party. He gained a significant online following among Chinese expatriates. Along with Trump's advisor Steve Bannon, Guo created the initiative "New Federal State of China," aimed at overthrowing the Chinese government. However, despite presenting himself as a defender of democracy, Guo exploited his followers. Miles lured them into fraudulent investment schemes, including his cryptocurrency projects. He promised enormous returns but used the funds to purchase real estate and luxury cars. A U.S. District Court also ordered Guo to pay $889 million to thousands of victims of his investment fraud.
