The publication analyzed 1,105 videos from 10 authors from December 2025 to mid-May 2026. In these videos, all bets amounting to $1.9 million turned out to be fake. For instance, student George Makihara edited archival footage to claim a $100,000 win on Trump's mention of "McDonald's." Meanwhile, 50 people who made similar bets lost money. The bloggers used websites with interfaces similar to the original Polymarket, like poiymarket.com. In reality, instead of gaining $900,000, they would have lost $166,000. Bloggers received $2,000-3,000 per month with a non-disclosure agreement on the terms. In response to the allegations, Polymarket stated they would audit their advertising practices. This month, Politico also accused Polymarket's marketing director, Matthew Modabber, of fraud. He allegedly used his PayPal accounts to pay $350,000 to bloggers on X, with publications not marked as advertisements.
