The restrictions will be in force from August 15, 2026, to December 31, 2032. The ban also applies to participation in mining pools. The restrictions cover Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as certain areas of the Kursk region. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The proposal was put forward by the Moscow Region Ministry of Energy, which claimed that miners consume 1 GW of energy without any economic benefit. Earlier, Russia restricted mining in Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and part of the Irkutsk region. Russian authorities explained the decision by citing preferential electricity tariffs in these regions. In addition, Russian authorities introduced similar restrictions in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.
