The company has stopped registering new users. Starting August 26, the crypto exchange will prohibit opening new trades and will allow only reduce-only trades. Final shutdown is scheduled for September 23. After that date, BitMEX will close all positions, although withdrawals will remain available. However, users will be charged a monthly maintenance fee of $50 or 1% of the balance, whichever is greater. BitMEX also noted that its assets fully cover its liabilities to customers. In addition, hackers did not steal customer funds. However, the exchange was never able to find a buyer, despite search efforts that had been underway since February 2025. This happened after the company was hit with an additional $100 million fine in the United States.
